Brainspotting

Some experiences don’t organize themselves through language.

You may be able to talk about what happened and still feel like your body reacts as if it is happening now.

Brainspotting is a somatic therapy that helps access and process those deeper layers of experience.

In session, we identify points of visual focus that are connected to emotional activation in the nervous system. As we stay with that point, attention shifts inward and the body begins to process what has been held beneath awareness.

The work is often quiet but it is guided and I am right there with you. There may be moments of reflection and words, and there may also be long stretches of silence. Nothing has to be explained in real time for the process to work.

We follow your nervous system rather than trying to direct it. The pace is slow, and we stay oriented to what feels tolerable and supported.

Over time, many people notice that experiences that once felt overwhelming begin to feel more distant, less reactive, and less physically charged.

  •  If you are in crisis, please do not use this site. Call or text Blackline (prioritizing BIPOC) 800-604-5841, Trans Lifeline 877-565-8860 or click here to see more crisis services and information about police intervention.
  • Please note that some crisis line workers are mandated to report calls regarding suicide to the police. If this is a concern, we encourage you to first ask about their reporting policies before sharing.
  • If you or someone you know is in immediate, life-threatening danger and decide to call 911, please be aware that police are not equipped to offer mental health support and may even pose danger to People of Color, Neurodivergent people and Disabled people. Please ALSO reach out to community leaders, neighbors, friends, and family to be present if you are calling the police.

I reside and practice on stolen land that belongs to the Piscataway and Manahoac peoples. Learn more about this land and to learn about the land you live on. Please consider how you can support the first stewards of this land.
