Grief & Loss

Virtual Grief Therapy in Washington, DC and Virginia

Grief isn't limited to death.

It can come through divorce, estrangement, identity shifts, becoming a parent, leaving a faith community, coming out, moving, receiving a diagnosis, or realizing something in your life no longer fits anymore.

There are also quieter griefs.

The life you thought you would have. The version of you that had to adapt. The relationships that changed shape over time.

Sometimes the losses that affect us most deeply are the ones other people don't recognize.

Grief Doesn't Follow a Timeline

Grief doesn't move through neat stages or follow a predictable timeline. It is as unique as you.

It can bring sadness, anger, numbness, relief, guilt, or a confusing combination of feelings that don't seem to belong together.

Sometimes grief shows up in the body before it has words. You might notice exhaustion, tension, restlessness, or a sense that something has shifted without knowing quite how to explain it.

You don't have to make sense of everything before bringing it into therapy.

And you don't have to prove that what you've lost is significant enough to grieve.

Making Space for What Has Been Lost

In our work, we make space for what has been lost without rushing toward resolution.

We slow down enough to notice what your grief is asking for and what it has been holding on your behalf.

We can explore how loss has affected your relationships, your sense of identity, your body, and the way you understand your life.

Sometimes that means making room for sadness that hasn't had anywhere to go.

Sometimes it means acknowledging anger, complicated love, or relief that feels difficult to admit.

And sometimes it means grieving a version of your life you worked very hard to build, even when you know something needed to change.

There is no expectation that you find a silver lining, arrive at acceptance, or turn your loss into a lesson.

We can begin with what is here.
